About Me

I grew up on the Coromandel Coast, at the top end of the east coast of the North Island of New Zealand. A 100% pure Kiwi kid. I am Ngati Porou, Ngati Maru and Irish by descent. My childhood instilled within me a forever restlessness, curiousity and a never ending love of oysters.

Coromandel has some of the world’s best sea life and beaches.

Coromandel – a place of mountain ridges, Maori myths and monsters, pumping surf beaches with thermal-hot-spring-pools on their ocean edges, wild boar and even wilder childhoods.

I spent my childhood a 100% pure, New Zealand kid, leaping off swing bridges in the Kauaeranga Valley, pig hunting  well by association- my teenage sweetheart was a pig hunter, motivated by love I ventured on one pig hunt, at the time I was a vegetarian.

Today part of me yearns for my childhood of boulder hopping down streams littered with abandoned gold-mine shafts and running to dinner with grass stains from ‘playing outside’ to homes filled with homegrown veges, farm killed beasts, wild honey comb and home cooked meals.

DCF 1.0

Writing inspired today, playing fashion sleuth in South Molton street London – I loved moving in London’s mass of humanity – needing to be somewhere or as in this moment, me needing to be nowhere at all.’

But here’s the magic – as writers we create and satisfy those yearnings with story. The gift of story with all it’s restless curiosity.
